Cape Town councillor Sheval Arendse distanced himself from his wife Pamela’s behaviour on Wednesday, after she pleaded guilty and paid a fine in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court for fraud.
Mother-of-two Pamela paid a R5 000 fine for illegally receiving a child grant — money she was not entitled to.
Sheval, who won the recent Tafelsig by-election for the Democratic Alliance, said he was still angry with his wife.
”As my wife admitted, I was very upset at her actions and am still upset. What she did wasn’t right and I distance myself from them,” said the councillor in a statement.
He said he was disappointed, but thankful the law ran its course.
Arendse said his wife was contrite and glad the matter was finalised.
”I supported my wife at court and will continue to support her as her partner,” said Arendse, adding that his wife had already paid back the misappropriated money in full. — Sapa
