Nadeco suspends three top members

The National Democratic Convention (Nadeco) on Monday suspended two national MPs and a KwaZulu-Natal MPL from the party.

”We are currently investigating the conduct of certain members of Nadeco, and will, if necessary, institute disciplinary action soon,” Nadeco president Ziba Jiyane said in a statement.

The members were MPs Chris Ngiba and Vincent Ngema, and MPL Hawu Mbatha. The suspension was with immediate effect.

”They continue to hold their seats as members of the respective legislatures and Parliament until the outcome of any disciplinary hearing, if any, has been concluded.”

Jiyane said due to ”certain events” during the past two months, Nadeco’s name had ”been brought into disrepute”.

He did not elaborate.

According to recent media reports, a rift has emerged among Nadeco members over who should be elected party leader at the party’s annual conference, set to take place in two months’ time. — Sapa
