Manto, DA to square off in TV debate

South Africa’s Minister of Health Manto Tshabalala-Msimang will appear in a live television debate with the shadow health minister Gareth Morgan on Sunday August 20 on SABC TV1.

The show will debate the fact that the number of cases of tuberculosis (TB) in South Africa has increased by 400% between 1995 and 2004, and the link between HIV/Aids and TB.

According to a reply to a parliamentary question, the ministry of health noted that only 52% of South Africans infected with TB are treated successfully.

Meanwhile Morgan, a Democratic Alliance MP, said in a statement on Friday: ”I look forward to tackling the minister on this and on some of the other more substantial issues concerning government’s approach to this particular aspect of the country’s health care system.”

The show is at 6.30pm local time on Sunday. — I-Net Bridge
