A Bloemfontein man has miraculously survived, with no serious injuries, a 1Â 000m jump after his parachute failed to open properly during his first high-altitude jump, the Volksblad reported on Monday.
Benno Jacobs (35) fell into a ploughed field near the Tempe airport at Bloemfontein after his 60-second jump.
”Because it was my first jump, I thought I had a bad landing,” the newspaper quoted the father of two as saying.
The incident happened on Friday after Jacobs, his bother-in-law and a friend had finished a parachute course at the Bloemfontein parachute club.
Jacobs had not broken nor even a pulled muscle from the incident.
However, he was taken to hospital where he was treated for bruises, a bruised lung, a swollen lip and severe body stiffness.
He is being held for observation at the neurological unit at a Bloemfontein hospital. — Sapa
