Bantam strike seals win for Santos

Santos gained three valuable points when they narrowly beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) match played at the Green Point Stadium on Wednesday night.

Celtic played with a lot of fire and were quick in their tackles, but could not make use of the possession they had. Santos used the long ball, but it was not effective against the strong wind that blew against a quick Celtic side.

The first goal of the new PSL season was scored in 16th minute when Marawaan Bantam did a Beckham with a brilliant free kick from 20m out that curled into the top right hand corner.

Celtic had been exerting most of the pressure, but the old-timers of Musa Otieno and Edries Burton held them out.

In the 19th minute Otieno stretched out a leg to deflect the ball from an advancing Lebohang Kukane who would have had a clear run in the box.

The visitors had the ball in the net in the 36th minute, but Lebajoa Mphongoa was well off-side.

Both teams had chances in the second half but failed to add to the score. — Sapa
