SA will not stand in for Pakistan in England

Cricket South Africa has turned down a request from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the Proteas to replace Pakistan should they withdraw from the one-day series against England following the controversy over the forfeited Test match at the Oval.

Cricket South Africa CEO Gerald Majola said on Friday: ”We were approached by the ECB earlier this week, requesting the Proteas to replace Pakistan should they withdraw from the ODI tournament against England.

”We have turned down the request on the basis that we are committed to playing against Zimbabwe in the three-match MTN ODI tournament starting next month.”

Zimbabwe will play the Standard Bank ODI Team in the MTN ODI Series at Goodyear Park, Bloemfontein on Friday, September 15 (day/night), on Sunday September 17 at Buffalo Park, East London (day match) and on Wednesday September 20 at Sedgars Park, Potchefstroom (day/night). — Sapa
