A homeless man has claimed that he witnessed the murder on mining tycoon Brett Kebble in Johannesburg last year, the South African Broadcasting Corporation reported on Thursday.
The man, whose name was withheld, told the broadcaster he was asleep in a park not far from the murder scene when the incident happened.
He said Kebble met occupants of two BMW cars before he was shot.
The man claimed one of the people he saw on the night of the murder, was wearing an earpiece. He said he saw the same man a couple of weeks later, during the Jacob Zuma rape trial, in a newspaper picture.
Asked why he had decided to come forward only now, the man said he ”just disappeared” after the incident.
After talking to his family, he decided to come forward to tell what he knew.
He said he approached the police first, but after failing to meet with them, approached the public broadcaster with his story.
The man claimed he would be able to identify Kebble’s attackers and said he was willing to testify in court.
Kebble was shot dead in September last year behind the steering wheel of his car.
Police have so far been unable to solve the murder. – Sapa
