Eastern Cape-based The Herald newspaper dominated the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Regional Awards, walking away with five accolades.
Francois Rank, Nicky Blatch and Roux Van Zyl won in the Print News, Print Feature and Financial/economic categories with Ivor Markman scooping the Photography award.
Tabelo Timse, also from The Herald, won the coveted Editors Choice award.
The SABC also featured strongly with three awards.
SABC journalist Asanda Magaqa won both the Radio News and Radio Feature categories. The former was for her gripping portrayal of child abuse in Port Elizabeth and the latter for her insert on housing in the Eastern Cape.
Magaqa shared the Radio Feature award with fellow SABC journalist Veronica Fourie who won for her story on ghosts.
The third award for the SABC, in the TV General News category, went to Asanda Mbethse for her piece on the abuse of a six-year-old by his grandmother.
Keith Sayster of SABC Fokus took the TV Feature award for his ‘Living on the rubbish dump” insert.
The Weekend Post journalists were also recognised – Jimmy Matyu for his column and Barbara Hollands for her sports coverage.
