Child flung from car in horror crash

At least one person died and a child was injured when he was flung from a vehicle in an accident on the N1 in Johannesburg on Saturday night, said Johannesburg emergency services.

Divisional Commander Malcolm Midgley said a car travelling north on the N1 was coming up to the 14th Avenue offramp in Quellerina when it was apparently rear-ended by a BMW after 9pm.

Midgley said the first vehicle, which appeared to be a Volkswagen Golf, burst into flames.

He said one body was found in the car, burnt beyond recognition.

”A small child was ejected from the vehicle on impact,” he said.

The child was taken to the Flora clinic. A spokesperson at the clinic said a boy aged eight or nine was admitted. No further details were available.

Midgley said the BMW driver was being questioned by Johannesburg metro police. — Sapa
