A pilot died at the controls moments after landing an aeroplane carrying 100 passengers, the Indonesian National Committee for Transport Safety said on Wednesday.
Captain Sutikno (54) died of heart failure on board the Boeing 737-200 aircraft that he had guided onto the runway of Jakarta’s Sukarno-Hatta international airport late on Tuesday.
None of the passengers on the Sriwijaya Air flight from Solo, central Java, were injured when Sutiko collapsed as the plane taxied towards the disembarking lounge.
The airline said that he had no history of heart problems.
Admiral Setyo Raharjo, head of the National Committee for Transport Safety, said on Wednesday an inquiry had been launched to investigate the incident.
He said: ”We will probe the death to see whether this pilot should not have been allowed to fly the plane.” — AFP
