Kallis enters record books with 8 000 runs

South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis set up an impressive record in the second limited-overs international played against Zimbabwe at Buffalo Park on Monday.

When he opened his account by pushing Piet Rinke to mid-on for a single he scored his 8 000th run in limited-overs cricket, to become only the second player to achieve the feat of reaching 8 000 runs and 200 wickets in one day internationals (ODI) after Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka.

The match was the 233rd of his ODI career.

Kallis and Garfield Sobers are the only two all-rounders to have achieved a similar feat in Test cricket.

Kallis thus stands alone as the only player to have achieved the feat in both ODIs and Test cricket. – Sapa
