Alexandra shack fire leaves families homeless

About 100 families were left homeless when their shacks caught fire in an informal settlement at Alexandra on Tuesday afternoon, Johannesburg emergency services said.

No one died and no injuries were reported, said spokesperson Malcolm Midgley.

”We were alerted to the scene at around 1.30pm, but by the time we put out the fire about 100 shacks were totally destroyed.”

He said the cause of the fire was not yet known.
