Gauteng rocked by another school stabbing

A 13-year-old pupil was rushed to hospital after he was stabbed by a fellow Edleen Primary School pupil on Monday, said the Gauteng department of education.

”It’s disturbing because all along it’s been taking place in high schools and this time it is primary school pupils,” said spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi.

The boy was allegedly stabbed by another pupil while waiting for his transport outside the primary school in Kempton Park.

”He was bleeding quite badly when his parents came and rushed him to the hospital,” he said.

Police are searching for a 14-year-old who fled the scene after the stabbing.

The incident took place as provincial minister Angie Motshekga joined other provincial ministers in briefing National Minister of Education Naledi Pandor on the recent staggering increase of violence in schools.

”They are discussing the matter as we speak. This is a societal problem. If we live in a society permeated by violence there is no way it cannot spill into schools,” said Lesufi.

Motshekga expressed shocked at the second stabbing in a Gauteng school in the last three weeks. — Sapa
