Cornwell Tshavhungwa, the disgraced former deputy director of the Scorpions in Gauteng, is threatening to take Justice Minister Brigitte Mabandla to court to challenge the decision to terminate his contract.
Tshavhungwa spent over a year in jail after he was charged with fraud and corruption for allegedly accepting bribes from government officials to divert investigations against them. He was fired by the National Prosecuting Authority in December 2004.
In a letter to Mabandla he argues that his dismissal was unlawful because only the minister had the power to fire him. He also accuses the NPA bosses of sacking him without following proper disciplinary procedures.
Earlier this year Tshavhungwa was cleared of allegations that he received a R500 000 bribe to subvert an investigation into alleged irregularities around a contract awarded by the Mpumalanga government to Rainbow Kwanda Communications.
He was also acquitted on allegations that he received R701 000 to divert the investigation of the Mpumalanga Economic Empowerment Corporation for irregularities relating to loans granted by the corporation.
Tshavhungwa appeared again in court this week on six other charges.
