A senior KwaZulu-Natal official was stabbed to death in Pietermaritzburg, police said on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Joshua Gwala said Thulas Mngomezulu was stabbed to death on Friday night in Pietermaritzburg’s Boschoff Street.
Gwala said details were sketchy and that ”motive and suspects are unknown”.
It is believed that he was robbed of his shoes and his cellphone.
Mngomezulu was a director in the office of the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Sbu Ndebele. Ndebele was expected to issue a statement later on Saturday.
Mngomezulu was in charge of organising the recent celebrations to commemorate the 1906 Bambatha Rebellion and celebrations to commemorate the birth of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha campaign a century ago. – Sapa
