Mozambican ‘immigrants’ perish in Kruger park

The bodies of two Mozambican men were found in Limpopo on Saturday, one inside the Kruger National Park and one just outside the park’s fence, police said.

Superintendent Moatshe Ngoepe said the men were crossing the park to get from Mozambique to South Africa illegally.

”They had run out of food and water along the way and they died,” said Ngoepe.

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

While patrolling along a tarred road nearby, police found a further five Mozambican nationals who had come into the country through the park. They were arrested.

”There are dangerous animals in that park. People should just get passports and enter the country at the correct places,” said Ngoepe.

Police suspect there were more people with the five who may have scattered into the bush when they saw police approaching. — Sapa
