Individual Rugby World Cup tickets will be put up for sale on the internet on Thursday, with 10 months to go before the competition gets under way.
A total of 550 000 tickets will be available to the general public from 8am GMT on websites including Rugbyworldcup.com and from other ticket outlets.
These will cover the 40 games making up the preliminary group phase of play, the quarterfinals and the play-off match for third place.
Tickets for the semifinals and final, all at the Stade de France in Paris, will not be available until next April.
Already 1,1-million World Cup tickets have been sold through team and city packages from November last year.
Organisers have set a target of selling 1,9-million tickets out of the 2,4-million that will be available, comprising an average of 80% ground capacity.
The World Cup will see 20 teams competing to succeed 2003 champions England. They are initially split into four groups of five teams with the top two qualifying for the quarterfinals.
The competition opens with hosts France taking on Argentina at the Stade de France on September 7. Games will be played at Paris, Lens, Nantes, Lyon, St Etienne, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Montpellier and Marseille, as well as Cardiff and Edinburgh. The final will take place in Paris on October 20. — Sapa-AFP
