Titans enter the record books

The Titans beat the Eagles by one run on Sunday in their Supersport Series four-day match played at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

This is only the second such result in the history of South African first-class cricket and the 32nd in all first-class cricket.

On Thursday the Titans won the toss and elected to bat, posting 204 runs in their first innings. The Eagles replied with 309 runs.

In their second innings the Titans amassed 283 runs, leaving the Eagles with an attainable 179-run target.

The Eagles fell short by two runs of the target, being bowled out for 177 as the Titans recorded an unlikely victory over the Bloemfontein-based franchise.

Titans all-rounder Morne Morkel was awarded the man-of-the-match prize with his 22 runs in the first innings and 57 runs in the second innings.

Morkel finished the match with figures of six for 134 in his collective 33,3 overs where he bowled seven maidens. — Sapa
