Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana announced on Monday that his department will inject almost R100-million into Limpopo’s skills development fund.
The announcement was made after a national launch on Saturday, spokesperson Mokgadi Pela said.
”All the provinces were allocated a portion of money totalling nearly R1-billion.”
The sum allotted to Limpopo will benefit about 2 109 unemployed youth and people in rural areas.
”The focus of strategic projects is on critical skills training [which] the Limpopo provincial government identified [as] tourism and integrated transport.”
The Expanded Public Works Programme, which is at the centre of AsgiSA (Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative of South Africa), is also receiving a portion of money to develop building contractors and for the rehabilitation of sports facilities.
Said Mdladlana: ”This is but one of the channels through which the national skills fund is addressing the skills needs of our country.”
The allocation will take care of skills training for the next three years, Pele said. — Sapa
