Four South African men abducted in Iraq at the weekend are still missing, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.
They are all employed by Safenet Security Services, a company registered in the British Virgin Islands and contracted to the United States Department of Defence.
”The discussions are still ongoing between the company and the abductors, with Foreign Affairs providing the necessary support for the process so that there can be an amicable resolution,” said department spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa.
The four were snatched at a roadblock in northern Baghdad on Sunday.
The names of the missing men have not been released as their families have not given permission for this.
Sources said two of the men are believed to be from Cape Town, one from Durban and one from Orkney. — Sapa
