Former African National Congress chief whip Tony Yengeni will not be home for Christmas, the Department of Correctional Services said on Saturday.
”Mr Yengeni was on a weekend parole in October and that interval has not lapsed. At this stage, he therefore does not qualify for another weekend parole before his release in January 2007,” said Correctional Services Ministry spokesperson Luphumzo Kebeni.
Yengeni was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment in 2003 after being convicted on fraud charges. He was jailed in August this year after his appeal failed.
The charges related to his acceptance of a discount on a luxury vehicle from one of the bidders in the multibillion-rand arms deal.
