Government officials arrested in Mpuma for fraud

Thirty-four government officials have been arrested in Mpumalanga for fraud and corruption, the provincial health and social services department said on Monday.

Spokesperson Mpho Gabashane said the officials were from different departments in Mpumalanga, Limpopo and Gauteng.

The arrests were made after an investigation by the Special Investigating Unit and the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) into social-grants fraud.

The officials are expected to appear in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. – Sapa
