A Durban metro policeman riding a motorcycle was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident after he was allegedly forced off the road by a minibus taxi on Monday.
Metro police spokesperson Alec Wright said details were not immediately clear, but witnesses said the policeman had been forced off Durban’s North Coast Road by a white minibus taxi heading out of the city. As he was forced off the road he hit a lamp post.
Wright said: ”We are not sure what happened. We don’t know if he was trying to pull the taxi over or what. Witnesses said the taxi forced him off the road. We can’t even speak to him.”
A spokesperson for ER24, the national medical care network, said the policeman had lost a foot. He said it was not certain whether surgeons at Durban’s Entabeni Hospital would be able to re-attach it. – Sapa
