The young widow of City Press editor Mathatha Tsedu’s murdered son will know on Monday if she will be released on bail.
On Wednesday, the Krugersdorp Regional Court heard final arguments in her bail application.
Mulalo Sivhidzo and five men were in the dock following the murder of her husband, Avhatakali Netshisaulu, on December 7 last year.
Arguments in the bail application have centred around where she would stay if she was released on bail, her suspension from her police job, her alibi, the incomplete charge sheet and the strength of statements on which her arrest was based.
State prosecutor Lebo Sibi told magistrate Mariette Louw on Wednesday that there were no exceptional circumstances that should allow Sivhidzo to get bail while facing charges relating to a schedule six offence.
She also told the court that police had complained of being pestered by Sivhidzo’s family.
Sivhidzo’s lawyer, Dolph Jonker, said he would speak to his client about the matter. Earlier this week, Jonker asked that bail be set at between R5 000 and R10 000.
As usual, Tsedu was present in court.
Sivhidzo, dressed in a pumpkin-coloured fleece-hooded jacket, shared a few words with relatives as she walked down to the cells after the hearing.
The men arrested also arrested for Netshisaulu’s murder are Ntambudzeni Mutsenene (29), Sello Johannes Arnold (28), Rodney Makhura (32), Setshaba Fokane (36) and Mashudu Mutobvu (30). — Sapa
