A South Korean woman has claimed the world karaoke record after singing for nearly 60 hours on Valentine’s Day to cheer up her sick husband, reports said on Thursday.
Kim Seok-Ok (52) collapsed in exhaustion after a marathon 59-hour, 48-minute singing session at a Seoul karaoke bar.
She beat the official world record of 59 hours and 12 minutes set last year by a German, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency quoted spectators as saying.
Kim was observed by a record keeper from the Guinness Book of World Records, which has yet to declare her time official. She started singing on Monday and collapsed on Wednesday night.
She rested for 10 minutes after every 50 minutes of singing, and managed to finish 979 of about 1Â 014 songs she had prepared.
Kim told local media she decided to challenge the record in the hope of encouraging her 45-year-old husband, who is suffering from a brain tumour. — AFP
