Boeremag escape ‘helpers’ appear in court

A couple suspected of helping two alleged members of the Boeremag will go on trial in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo in July, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reported on Friday.

Jacobus (47) and Elizabeth Bogaards (49) face charges under the Protection of Democracy against Terrorism and Related Activities Act.

They allegedly helped Herman van Rooyen and Rudi Gouws, who escaped from the Pretoria High Court during an appearance last May.

The Bogaards are out on R10 000 bail each.

One of the conditions of bail was that Jacobus report to the Bela-Bela police station and Elizabeth to the Modimolle station three times a week.

A tent in which Van Rooyen and Gouws had been camping was allegedly found on the Bogaards’ farm.

Police also found a motorcycle registered in Van Rooyen’s name on the farm, the SABC reported.

Van Rooyen and Gouws, facing charges of treason, sabotage and murder, were rearrested at a townhouse complex in Lyttelton, Pretoria, a week after the Bogaards’ arrest for allegedly aiding and abetting them. — Sapa
