Stars and Wits draw on slippery pitch

Wits came from behind to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Silver Stars in their Castle Premiership game at the Bidvest stadium on Wednesday night. Stars led 1-0 at halftime.

The game started at a blistering pace with both strikers testing the goalkeepers with shots. Both coaches — Bobby Solomon from Wits and Owen da Gama from Stars — came into the match worried because their teams have performed poorly recently. The Clever Boys lost to Celtic, Sundowns and Chiefs while the Stars, who won the Telkom Challenge Cup, slipped down the PSL log table after leading in the early stages of the season.

Five minutes before the break, Stars midfielder Tshepo Ramokala took a free kick just outside the area and striker Bhekithemba Ndovu headed home the goal. The students never gave up in the second half and they were later rewarded through Bruin Senokoane in the 57th minute. Senokoane received a cross from Danilo Julio and made no mistake with the equaliser.

Towards the end of the game, both strikers tried hard to snatch a winning goal but because of the slippery pitch a host of scoring chances went begging.

At the end of the match, neither coach was happy with the result because the two teams might not qualify for the Supa8 competition. – Sapa
