Entry into the 2007 Vodacom Women in The Media Award is now open.
Now in its fifth year, the Vodacom Women in The Media Award is the only one of its kind in South Africa to recognise the achievements of remarkable women in this sector.
Past recipients of this much coveted accolade include founding CEO of the Media Diversity and Development Agency, Libby Lloyd (2005), and Mail & Guardian editor Ferial Haffajee (2006).
There is also The Media Rising Star Award which is awarded to young women under the age of 30 whose achievements make them a force to be reckoned with.
South Africa’s leading cellular communication provider Vodacom is sponsoring the event for the first time.
‘Vodacom recognises the stellar contribution made by women to South African media, and it sees the Women in The Media Award as an ideal platform to acknowledge the role these women play in informing society,” says Dot Field, chief communications officer at Vodacom.
‘As South Africa’s leading cellular communications provider, Vodacom knows firsthand the power of effective communications, and it regards these women who are rising or established stars in the media as powerful communicators.
‘Our country’s media is considerably strengthened by the many dynamic women whose voices bring depth and substance to the dialogues that occur across print, electronic and online media platforms, and that is why Vodacom is a proud supporter of the Women in The Media Award.”
Nominations for the award must consist of a brief CV listing current contact details and a 500-word long motivation letter which includes the milestones achieved by the individual in the last 12 months.
The closing date for nominations is May 11, 2007, and they should be sent to The Media editor Fienie Grobler at [email protected]
