Bryan Habana and Fourie de Preez scored two tries each as South Africa’s Bulls crushed the New South Wales Waratahs 32-19 in a Super 14 match at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday.
Habana scored twice down the left wing after following up kicks while scrumhalf de Preez scored two solo tries, the first from a little dart down the blindside off the back of a scrum and the second when he kicked high and re-gathered.
The victory was the Bulls’ second on the trot in Australia after last weekend’s win over the ACT Brumbies and cemented their place in the top four after six rounds.
”It’s all about taking your chances. In the first half we weren’t in the game but we scored two tries with the two opportunities we got,” Bulls captain Victor Matfield said in a televised interview.
”We’ve never won in Sydney before but the best thing is getting the four tries and getting the bonus point; we’re really happy about that.”
The Waratahs, finalists two years ago, dropped to second to last with just one win from five matches.
They dominated territory and possession throughout the match but could only score one try, a consolation by teenage flyhalf Kurtley Beale, with the rest of the points all coming from the boot of Peter Hewat.
”We dropped too much ball,” skipper Adam Freier said. ”We had a pretty strong game plan and we followed it pretty well but in patches we let ourselves down.”
