Workers at Air Senegal International, 51% held by Morocco’s state-owned Royal Air Maroc, launched a two-day strike on Monday, grounding flights to France and destinations across West Africa.
Staff at Air Senegal, one of the region’s main carriers with services from Dakar to around 10 neighbouring countries as well as France, Italy and Spain, called the stoppage to demand an increase in their wages, their unions said.
”There will be no flights today [Monday] or tomorrow [Tuesday],” Moustapha Diakhate, coordinator of the unions representing Air Senegal’s employees, told Reuters.
A spokesperson for the company, which employs around 500 people, said negotiations had begun but declined to comment further. – Reuters
