The South African Police Service team won more than 200 medals in the World Police and Fire Games in Australia, police said on Tuesday.
”The team won a total of 202 individual medals,” said Senior Superintendent Vishnu Naidoo.
These were 79 gold, 61 silver and 62 bronze medals.
The games were held from March 16 to March 25 in Adelaide, Australia, and South Africa sent a team of 152 active officials. They were headed by Deputy National Commissioners Dr Mala Singh and Magda Stander, and team manager, Provincial Commissioner N C Sengani from Limpopo.
Events included cross-country running, cycling, darts, golf, karate, shooting, rugby, soccer, squash, tennis, netball and ”toughest competitor alive”.
The biennial games are open to active and retired members of the public safety community including police officers, fire fighters, corrections officers and customs officials, said Naidoo. — Sapa
