Pirates beat determined Benoni outfit

Orlando Pirates beat a determined Benoni United 3-2 in a fast and entertaining PSL fixture played at Ellis Park Stadium on Sunday.

The Buccaneers led 2-1 at halftime.

Two former Leopards players Mulondo Sikhwivhilu and Rudzani Ramudzuli both scored to give Bucs the early lead in the first half. However, United replied from the penalty spot via Sello Mhlambi who was brought down in the box.

In the second half Pirates upped the tempo and were rewarded when midfielder Jabu Mahlangu increased the lead to two goals.

United pulled one back through the ever enterprising Mhlambi deep into the second half from a well taken free kick.

United were then reduced to 10 men when Mhlambi turned from hero to villain when he was red carded for a second bookable offence.

United have only managed a measly 25 points from 25 games which includes seven wins five draws and 14 losses.

The Buccaneers are lying in ninth position on the PSL log with 35 points from 23 matches with eight draws nine wins and six losses. – Sapa
