Construction along the Gautrain route could cause power failures in many Gauteng suburbs, Eskom said on Tuesday.
The construction work, to take place during April and May, involves the removal of a number of transmission lines, Eskom said in a statement.
”Eskom needs to take out a number of transmission lines in the Gauteng area … The risk during this period is that if another transmission line is affected, there is a possibility of load shedding during peak periods.”
Eskom added, however, that the risk of load shedding is low.
Areas that could be affected are Braamfontein, Robertsham, Mondeor, Mulbarton, Industria, Hursthill, Eikenhof, Cleveland, Observatory, Kelvin, Gressworld, Fordsburg, Germiston North, Kempton Park, Isando and Bedfordview.
The work will proceed from April 4 to 15, from April 20 to May 1 and from May 4 to 15.
Eskom warned residents to avoid all installations and cables in the interest of public safety. — Sapa
