More than 30 accidents in and around Johannesburg

Paramedics attended to more than 30 accidents in and around Johannesburg on Thursday night, ER24 said on Friday.

Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said most of the accidents occurred between 7pm and 11pm. The last accident happened at 5am on Friday.

”In the West Rand a total of four people have been killed so far and 11 [are in a] critical [condition] after numerous accidents,” Vermaak said.

”The accident rate seen last night [Thursday] is quite unusual. We urge the public to drive safely on the roads, as this is only the beginning of the weekend and more than five people have been killed in our area alone,” he said.

Vermaak said most of the accidents involved overturned vehicles and single vehicle accidents. – Sapa
