The Johannesburg home of Gauteng’s provincial minister of health Brian Hlongwa was robbed and four family members held up on Tuesday night, police said.
”I can confirm that yesterday [Tuesday] evening about 8.30pm in the Sandton area four family members were held up and household items were taken.
”The [provincial minister] wasn’t at home at the time,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Director Govindsamy Mariemuthoo on Wednesday.
Hlongwa’s spokesperson Zanele Mngadi said nobody was injured and nobody had been arrested. The provincial minister is in Germany on an official visit.
The Democratic Alliance’s Gauteng health spokesperson Jack Bloom said the incident was regrettable.
”I hope that his family will recover from this ordeal that highlights once more how vulnerable we all are to crime.” — Sapa
