KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sbu Ndebele in his Freedom Day address said it was important for the province to built a better life and economy for its people.
”On Freedom Day we must look at what it is that government and the people of South Africa have done to better the conditions of our people.
”We must make apartheid history by ensuring we improve the socio-economic conditions of our townships and rural areas,” he said.
Ndebele said the province should use Freedom Day as a means of making progress in the reconstruction and development of the country and the province to accelerate economic growth.
He said it was important for people to remember their moral beliefs.
”We believe building the moral base of the community will ensure that we have a citizenry which values itself and respects its fellow human beings, the country and the province,” he said.
The premier said it was important to remember the country’s history in order to set goals that would help the nation overcome the challenges it was facing.
”These are things we must always remember, because a nation that forgets its own history is a nation that will itself soon be forgotten.” — Sapa
