Boland Rugby Ltd under provisional liquidation

The Cape High Court has granted an application for the provisional liquidation of Boland Rugby Limited, the professional arm of the Boland Rugby Union, the South African Broadcasting Corporation reported on Friday.

Before being placed under curatorship, Fidentia was the main sponsor.

However, Boland Rugby was left with the problem of paying the salaries of 56 contracted players.

Although 36 players were offered new contracts, the rest of the team were owed nearly R420 000 per month since February.

The Boland Rugby Union’s legal adviser, Chris Faure, said the court’s decision did not apply to the Boland Rugby Union.

”As far as the Boland Rugby Union is concerned, it’s business as usual. You know, club games will proceed tomorrow [Saturday] along normal lines, school matches and all other matches played under the auspices of the Boland Rugby Union will proceed as normal,” he told the SABC. — Sapa
