Former Muvhango star dies of pneumonia

Former South African soap-opera actress Lindiwe Chibi has died, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) reported on Thursday.

The Muvhango actress passed away at the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital on Wednesday night. Chibi (31) was admitted to hospital last Friday suffering from pneumonia.

Muvhango‘s executive producer, Duma Ndlovu, told the SABC that the hospital informed Chibi’s mother of her death after 7pm.

He said Chibi’s condition showed signs of improvement, but unfortunately ”her situation turned for the worse last night [Wednesday] and she passed away”.

Chibi (29), who played Doobsie in the soap opera, was shot in the head outside her mother’s Soweto home in April 2005. Her boyfriend at the time, Dan Mokoena, was charged with attempted murder.

Mokoena later admitted to shooting the actress, saying it was ”by accident”.

After three weeks in a coma, the actress had to undergo speech therapy and physiotherapy to help her regain the use of her limbs.
