Suspicious bag causes bomb scare in Lichtenburg

Lichtenburg came to a standstill at the weekend amid fears of a bomb after a ”suspicious” bag was seen in front of a retail shop.

Police spokesperson Pauline Montwedi said the bag had been left unattended for hours in front of an Edgars store on Saturday afternoon.

”The manager of the store became suspicious and called the police who barricaded the entrance to the store.

”Bomb experts were called to the scene and discovered that the bag contained papers, sunlight dish-washing soap and a rag,” she said.

Montwedi said the bag belonged to a man believed to be mentally ill.

”After the drama that lasted for hours, the man just came, took his bag and left,” said Montwedi. — Sapa
