Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has been admitted to a Johannesburg clinic complaining of fever and inflamed ribs.
”I am feeling much better now, and the doctor is confident I will go home this weekend,” said Parreira on Friday.
On May 1 this year, the Fifa World Cup-winning coach fractured his right rib during a fall in his home country of Brazil. He continued with his medical treatment when he returned to South Africa on May 4. On Thursday, he was taken to a Johannesburg hospital after complaining of fever and excruciating inflammation around the rib cage.
”Mr Parreira is recuperating well and can’t wait to be reunited with the South African national team in camp next week,” said S’bu Mngadi, the chief executive of South African football, who visited the head coach on Friday evening.
Mngadi was confident the Brazilian would be released from hospital this weekend, emphasising that he needed to rest for a few days before returning to work.
Bafana are scheduled to participate in the four-nation Cosafa Castle Cup in Swaziland next weekend.
”The head coach will be unable to travel with the team on May 22. However, he will rejoin them in Swaziland by next weekend for the matches,” said Mngadi.
