The retail price of all grades of petrol will rise by 23 cents per litre from Wednesday June 6, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday. This follows the 34-cents-a-litre rise that took effect from Wednesday May 2.
The latest changes bring the retail price for a litre of 95 octane unleaded petrol in Gauteng to R7,24 a litre and to R7 a litre at the coast — the highest to date.
During the period under review, the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.
The average rand-dollar exchange rate strengthened when compared with the previous period. The average rand-dollar exchange rate for the period April 25 to May 31 was R7,0457, compared with R7,1680 during the previous period.
The wholesale price of diesel 0,05% sulphur will increase by five cents a litre and that of 0,005% sulphur will rise by seven cents a litre on the same date.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will rise by two cents a litre, while the single maximum national retail price of illuminating paraffin will increase by three cents. — I-Net Bridge
