Gauteng residents should brace themselves for a strong cold front and isolated showers accompanied by wind in the coming week, the National Forecast Centre in Pretoria said on Sunday.
Forecasters Mark Todd and Elke Brouwers said the chilly weather should be expected in the middle of the week, with chances of light isolated showers on Tuesday.
”The cold front is likely to pass through Gauteng some time on Tuesday night. Wednesday is expected to be much colder, with the wind contributing to the chilly conditions.”
Early morning temperatures are likely to fall sharply on Thursday as a result of the wind dropping on Wednesday night, they said.
”Daytime temperatures, however, are expected to recover gradually from Thursday onwards, with the possibility that another cold front may affect the region on Sunday.”
Snowfalls are likely on the high ground of the Western Cape and south-western high ground of the Northern Cape late on Monday and Tuesday, as well as the high ground of the Eastern Cape, Lesotho and the Drakensberg, the forecasters said.
Heavy rainfall is are also expected in places near the mountains in the west of the Western Cape on Monday. – Sapa
