Polokwane baby born with four legs

A child was born with four legs at the Lebowakgomo hospital outside Polokwane on Thursday night, South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) radio news reports.

Provincial health department spokesperson Phuthi Seloba said: ””This is a very strange case. In the past 10 years in this province we’ve never seen such a case.

”But most of our doctors are familiar with this type of problem and they’ve committed themselves and vowed that they will continue to support the mother and help the baby to live a normal life,” he said.

The condition of being born with extra limbs, known as ”polymelia”, is rare among both humans and animals.

A case last occurred in Zambia in July 2003, the SABC reported. – Sapa
