Chiefs, Leopards ready to show off in Limpopo

Defending champions Kaizer Chiefs and Limpopo heroes Black Leopards will parade their new signings and give their fans a taste of their entertaining brand of soccer when the Limpopo Soccer Challenge takes place at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.

Kick-off is at 3.30pm.

Chiefs, under the guidance of new head coach Muhsin Ertugral and his assistant, Chiefs’ goal-scoring legend Fani Madida, will be looking to start building a formidable line-up that will stand the Amakhosi in good stead for the 2007/08 season.

Leopards coach Boebie Solomons will look to his players to produce the same sort of sparkling form that allowed them to have a good league run at the end of last season.

Should the match end level after 90 minutes of soccer action, the winner of the trophy will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Benny Boshielo, CEO of Limpopo Tourism and Parks, whose organisation is the driving force behind the tournament that started last year, said: ”The staging of the challenge forms part of our vision of promoting Limpopo as the leading eco-tourism destination and positioning Limpopo as an ultimate sports destination of choice.”

Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung said: ”As the defending champions of the challenge, we are looking to give a very good performance, and to use this game as a dress rehearsal for other major tournaments that will follow.

”The match will give us the opportunity to parade our new players and give them a platform to show what they are made of. Our new coach has been hard at work for the past two weeks and we call on all our supporters to go up to Limpopo and see the new Chiefs.” — Sapa

Tickets for the match are on sale at Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Computicket outlets nationwide at R20 (unreserved, adults), R10 (juveniles), R30 (grandstand). Gates open at 10am on match day
