Arts and Culture Minister Pallo Jordan on Wednesday paid tribute to Bill Flynn after the actor’s death a week ago.
”It is with deep sadness and regret indeed that we have learnt of the passing on of Mr Bill Flynn who was, undoubtedly, one of the most highly gifted performers in South Africa,” said the minister in a statement.
Flynn (58) is believed to have suffered a heart attack.
He was a respected and much-loved figure in the entertainment industry.
A stage and screen actor, he was known for his roles in films including Heel Against the Head and Running Riot.
He also sang in a band, the Rock Rebels.
Jordan said the actor had become a global cultural ambassador who raised the potential of South African talent over the last four decades.
”We hope that his life will remain an example of someone who was a visionary leader and role model: resilient, focused, determined and self-sacrificing!” he said.
The minister also offered his condolences to Flynn’s wife, actress Jana Cilliers. — Sapa
