Teed-off golfer sues over stray shot

A member of one of Hong Kong’s most exclusive golf clubs is suing a fellow player after a stray ball hit him on the head.

Alan Deakins has filed a High Court writ claiming he was “struck on the head by a golf ball whilst… walking up the 13th fairway”, the South China Morning Post reported on Thursday.

The writ alleges Humphrey Leung launched the wayward ball off the 14th tee.

The distinctly ungentlemanly spat is not the first time a Hong Kong golfer has resorted to the courts.

In 1999, a judge awarded nearly 89 000 Hong Kong dollars (US$11 400) to a caddie who was hit in the mouth by a shot from the golfer she was working for. — AFP
