Alleged sex blogger appears in court

A man who allegedly claimed over the internet to have had sex with a number of prominent South Africans appeared in the Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

District court prosecutor Tanya Buitendag confirmed that Juan Uys appeared in court in connection with a warrant of arrest for theft in the Western Cape.

”The case was postponed to July 30 for appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.”

Buitendag said Uys would remain in police custody until his next court appearance in Cape Town.

”He will remain in the Kroonstad police holding cells until police can take him to Cape Town.”

Buitendag said it could happen any time before July 30.

Uys (39) was arrested on Saturday at a house that he shared with his mother in Kroonstad.

This followed a months-long investigation, reportedly involving eBlockwatch, private investigators and the public.

The information about the investigation was handed to Gauteng police who referred it to Free State police, who made the arrest.

Uys is suspected of running the blog, SA Male Prostitute, on which he posed as a former male prostitute called Skye, named 16 prominent South Africans as his clients and threatened to name all 50 he claimed to have had sex with in the past 10 years.

They included a former Springbok rugby player and a Western Cape politician, both of whom have denied the claims.

It is not clear when Uys will appear in court in connection with the internet sex-claims investigation.

Buitendag said she handled no documents in relation to this.

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain Elliot Sinyangana said on Monday that the detective branch had not yet informed him ”fully” on the matter.

Cape Town police heard of the arrest for the first time on Saturday and detectives had not yet received any official documentation to this effect from Kroonstad.

As a result, it was known only that he was taken into custody on a warrant of arrest.

Details of the exact charge against him were not known. — Sapa
