Opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti has been admitted to hospital in northern Italy, a hospital spokesperson said on Thursday.
The spokesperson said Pavarotti had been taken to the Policlinico of Modena hospital on Tuesday for medical checks and has been there since.
He could not confirm a newspaper report that the singer, who underwent an operation to remove pancreatic cancer in July last year, was suffering from pneumonia.
The operation forced Pavarotti, regarded by many as the greatest tenor of his generation, to cancel his 2006 farewell opera tour. The 71-year old singer has not been seen in public since, prompting media speculation about his health. — Reuters
