Cops crack down in Jo’burg crime blitz

More than 200 people were arrested in Johannesburg over the weekend for crimes including rape and robbery, police said on Monday.

Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said Hillbrow police arrested 203 people between Friday and Monday morning.

”This was to ensure a safe environment for people residing in, touring and operating businesses in Hillbrow, Berea, Joubert Park, Killarney, Houghton, Parktown and Braamfontein,” said Mavundla.

Other crimes included pointing of a firearm and being in possession of dagga.

Mavundla also urged motorists to be cautious of smash and grabs when approaching traffic lights, stop signs, offramps and on roads under construction. — Sapa
