The former Auditor General (AG) of South Africa, Henri Kluever, has died, the office of the Auditor General announced on September 3.
He had served in the post from 1993 to 1999 during transition in the country and at the time the institution gained independence and autonomy from the public sector.
”As one of my predecessors, Henri Kluever was instrumental in helping set up the strong foundation of credibility, independence and transparency for this office,” said current AG Terence Nombembe.
”Our task is to protect his legacy and the gains he made in helping build the AG into a formidable, internationally acclaimed supreme audit institution.
”To honour his courage and sterling work, we need to work even harder to take this office to even greater heights,” he said.
Kluever died as a result of illness on Tuesday last week, the AG’s office confirmed.
He was 66 and left his wife, Marinda, and three children. — Sapa
